I want to add to this. It is possible for lifepods to switch off their location beacons. We have seen this before. When a TSN ship is destroyed, the life pods don’t always appear instantly. This is intentional so that enemy forces cannot locate and capture TSN officers. This doesn’t mean that this was the case however, but you can add it to the speculation when discussing in-character.
Another point… it could be possible to remotely program a ship. I know there are some who are not fans of this explanation but I don’t think it would be beyond the realms of possibility that TSN command could have been operating the research ship via a remote link, or perhaps have the ship pre-programmed on a set course with simple AI to respond to the dynamic situation should the need arise (just a basic AI though). If that is true, then what were their true intentions knowing a) the weapon would be so destructive and b) there were TSN officers aboard the escorting ships? Were we meant to return?
The disappearance of the TSN Destroyers we need to ignore. If it needs explaining in character, then we will have to settle for the classic “sensor glitch” or they hid their signals from us or something. Needless to say, it was a GM error and nothing more.
12/04/2016 at 22:17 #7046Blaze StrifeParticipantIt was pretty clear that the destroyers were removed from the map by the GM. Red at one moment, gone at the next. In my mind, in RP, my character was in a lifepod, but he would simply expect the destroyers to return to the stations, like we all did.
What’s funny to me is that Raven didn’t dock at the Promethean Command, even though Acting Fleet Captain Fish ordered so. 😛
12/04/2016 at 22:24 #7050AramondParticipantI must have completely missed that order in my continuing need to prove that I can actually fly a damn ship. Besides, docking with a shipyard is a fun challenge.
12/04/2016 at 22:31 #7054MatsiyanParticipantAnother RP reason for the disappearance of the destroyers is that like the life pods maybe they did not want to be visible to an aggressor. Maybe, since they were attached to R&D they are equipped with experimental or stolen cloaking technology?
13/04/2016 at 03:27 #7081John van LeighParticipantI think that the remotely controlled unmanned vessel explanation just makes it worse.
A FTL link would imply that the research data was getting somewhere up to the point in which the ship was destroyed (you can’t remote control stuff without some return signal to be aware of its state, or at least not effectively, so the return signal could carry some rudimentary data on the experiment). So, the follow up is that you destroyed military assets to attain nothing at all.
13/04/2016 at 04:03 #7083AramondParticipantThe details of how exactly that ship was set up isn’t the most important part, though. Unless Xavier in-character received orders from higher up, its gonna be a bit of a problem. The consensus from the bar is that Xavier messed up. I don’t quite see how he can get out of this…
13/04/2016 at 04:10 #7085John van LeighParticipantAgreed. But the point is how hard should he be hit. Considering his service record, he can get out with a slap on the wrist and a very thorough psych evaluation.
//Now, I really don’t think he’s gonna get demoted because of the implications for the community. But he did screw up, big time. It could be pinned down on some reason like Expree’s incident, still, or more favorable evidence could appear.
13/04/2016 at 06:28 #7091Blaze StrifeParticipantI am very interested to see how the trial will go.
@Maurice, are you surprised by the number of people interested? There are 11 voices in this topic. That’s plenty, already! 😀13/04/2016 at 06:33 #7096XavierKeymasterIf there is a trial…
13/04/2016 at 06:37 #7098Blaze StrifeParticipantWhat else? O.o
13/04/2016 at 06:44 #7105MatsiyanParticipantIf no charges are brought then the division needs an explanation or trust in the chain of command will erode faster than ice-cream on a beach.
13/04/2016 at 06:49 #7107Blaze StrifeParticipantLet’s just be clear: I want to see the trial because it’s something very different to what we usually do and there’s plenty of RP to go around; but I also want to see Xavier exonerated, so we can continue playing the game as usual.
13/04/2016 at 07:15 #7111MatsiyanParticipantYep. I second that opinion.
13/04/2016 at 07:52 #7120AramondParticipantThe roleplayer in me wants to see this play out to the end. The rest is worried that something could change that our GMing team wasn’t ready for. Leonard has already said that this is something he hadn’t expected.
Another, not pressing, thought just popped in. There are a good amount of us that don’t use the forums regularly/at all. They have no idea that all this discussion is taking place, both in and out of character. XD
13/04/2016 at 11:28 #7126XavierKeymasterWell, when I did it,I knew that it was something that the GMs wouldnt expect at all. I did contemplate whether I should because it would throw off whatever story is developing, but since they keep me in the dark most times, I decided I’d throw a spanner in the works for them.
Of course, I’m not leaving them hanging. I have started working on writing up quite indepth story and background to make this interesting and give clear, believable reasons and still fit with what we know. But who says there must be a trial…. that would happen if you take everything at face value, but should it all be that clear cut. As I said to Matsiyan in a message, consider all the assumptions and the unknowns.
I want to reveal stuff though to fill gaps and give explanations. For now, things are just getting going.
And sorry GMs, sometimes people don’t do what you expect 😉
