Typing frantically on his pad,
The options raised are good ones. ONI considered most of these, but Yooey raised some additional considerations along with Mr. Pierce. I’ll be sure Command gets this additional information so that they can consider it before drafting orders for the Fourth Light Division.
Looking up,
Any additional input? Now’s the time
24/06/2021 at 18:47 #33403XanstaParticipantStartled from his intent staring at a blank wall, Xansta blinks a bit and summarizes the text on the data pad in front of him.
While we were helping the division in Tyr, we got some backlogged reports on the ongoing war. Despite the progress made by the Hegemony to date, we’ve largely kept them from making any further progress. Command believes that the Fourth Light Division’s efforts behind the lines has contributed to that success. The 4LD has pricked the Hegemony in the side hard enough to distract it from its primary front line goals.
Xansta looks up from his notes to make eye contact with all the officers present.
I don’t see anything like formal recognition for our efforts in the documents picked up from Tyr, but I imagine we’ll be receiving some kind of recognition once the paper pushers are less tied up with logistics at the front. The appreciative tone in the official documents is pretty clear.
Xansta swipes to another page
Speaking of Tyr, several division leaders send their thanks for our assistance, particularly for picking up the lifepods from the division ships that pursued the Hegemony through the gate and were subsequently overwhelmed by the Hegemony in Tyr.
Xansta shifts in his seat a bit as he scans through his data pad, muttering Vaj failed to mention the special issue Head of ONI underwear uniform requirements. I’ll have to discuss that with him. In a louder voice It seems that our mission to Drenan XII was a great success. The sensor buoys and communications relays we left there have already intercepted a number of Hegemony communications. The topics seem to primarily focus on pirate activity in the area and what can be done about it. In fact, Command wants us to be sure that our Onwia base is secure. To that end, they want us to look around, tap into communications and verify that neither the Hegemony nor the real pirates in the area know about the base.
With that in mind, where should we look for that kind of verification?
Xansta has clearly opened up the conversation for input from all the officers as he looks around expectantly.

11/05/2021 at 00:30 #33362XanstaParticipantGlancing at the master manifest for all the Onwia transports to confirm, then putting down his data pad, Xansta responds to Ensign Deadman’s question:
Based on our current operational mission profile and the limited amount of the supplies available, the ONI analysts are leaning towards a light base or no base and resupply from transports rather than a more permanent station. It’s much easier to preserve transports on the move than to defend a fixed location. However, a base would simplify resupply operations. We lose less if a small base is destroyed compared to the loss of a larger, more permanent station. The profile presented to the Hegemony of a smaller base more closely aligns with our cover as pirates.
Still, the Ensign’s strategic point has merit and his question should be considered. ONI, as always, leaves the final decision to the Fleet Captain as to how to use the resources allocated to the Fourth Light Division for the mission.
Xansta returns to slowly scrolling through reports on his data pad, his attention split between the conference and the seemingly endless digital paperwork associated with ONI responsibilities.
14/11/2019 at 14:56 #32994XanstaParticipantLieutenant Xansta looks in through the doorway and spots Commander Vaj. He hesitates, then heads over to the table where Vaj is sitting.
Mind if I join you?
Commander Vaj looks up in annoyance from his ONI brief, recognizes Lieutenant Xansta with some surprise and gestures to the chair across the table before returning to reading. Xansta looks at Vaj’s reading material with some familiarity. He obviously wants to talk about something, but does not want to interrupt Vaj’s concentration. He’s almost ready to speak up when the barmaid arrives.
“What’ll you have?” she asks in an accent Xansta can’t quite place.
Xansta looks at the barmaid dressed in a TSN uniform. He’s about to say something about the inappropriateness of wearing the uniform while working in a bar when he realizes it’s only a costume. Then he recalls that this bar caters to the locals enamored of the mystique surrounding the TSN.
Pointing at Vaj, I’ll have what he’s having
Xansta watches in distracted admiration as the barmaid heads back to the bar. He turns back in time to catch Vaj’s warning look. He can’t tell if it’s regarding the barmaid or the implicit interruption of his reading. Taking advantage of the ambiguity, Xansta taps one of the documents.
Did you get to the part about the race code named “Ingratus?”

I’m ready and willing to participate and contribute. I will say real life trumps online life, but I’m sure leadership understands this.

If we move to another sector in search of resources and to avoid obvious pursuit by Rumarians as Wilcon suggests, we need a Rumarian response policy as Donovan implies. In the new sectors where we wish to establish mining operations or fallback positions for repair and resupply from our remaining assets, we should consider a harsher stance: Surrendered Rumarians to be boarded with intent to learn language, decode/extract/interpret any data stores, interact with those willing to talk but not to let any Rumarian vessel exit the sector. We would host any Rumarian remaining from surrendered ships, perhaps in their own life pods if our biology differs significantly. For other sectors, we could release surrendered Rumarian vessels.
gestures vaguely towards the local map
We all want to return to known systems. However, we must face the very real possibility that we will remain isolated in the Arcturus system for an extended period of time. We must plan for just such a circumstance. We cannot emulate the Flornix of Danae prime and bury our sensory organs beneath the regolith.
These are my ideas. I defer to the wisdom of the group and to the directives of the Fleet Captain.

The /edit may only work in a different context, or I don’t have the correct url (or something else)06/10/2018 at 17:35 #32635XanstaParticipantXansta sits isolated at a corner table, carefully writing. He has a sample of Mundy’s hand written communication and he’s carefully emulating her handwriting. He surreptitiously stuffs the jar with “Collateral damage becoming of an overconfident shuttle pilot,” “Innovation award for the Wise maneuver” and “Destruction award for the shortest shuttle simulation.” Hearing the blurred speech of some of his fellow officers, he pulls the last entry out of the jar and changes simulation to shimulation and puts it back in the jar, smiling at the faux-drunken alliteration. Whistling casually, he takes his drink and exits the bar.
