I’d probably argue a bit more give and take on the adapting to your crew end, though the having standing orders point, and in our case established fleet doctrine accessible to all, does go some of the way to helping the crew adapt to their captain anyway.
Might be because my experience at command is fairly informal LAN games where we all at least vaguely know each other though.
