    I was speaking with Jemel and he highlighted that many people wanted a place to write about thei characters and build up a backstory for them. I tried looking for a plug in for word press to allow profiles to be built up, but couldn’t find something that was suitable. The simplest solution therefore was to create a new forum.

    I have added a new forum area under the Personal Logs forum, named ‘Character Backstory’. The sticky post there will just outline how to post on it and general forum etiquette when using it.

    Anyway, go check it out. Hopefully it should fit what we need.

    Nice. Thanks for that!

    I’ve got questions regarding the text in the Forum Etiquette post:

    1. Should I post my short stories there or keep them in the Personal Log section? Or is this strictly for stories that happened before we joined TSN 2nd Space Fleet 4th Light Division?
    2. If I’m posting my short stories in the new subforum, I’m already using the italic text for specifying the Log, so that’s a problem.

    @Xavier, thank you, I noticed yesterday and have been mulling over the possibilities, this should be fun!

    @Blaze
    , under Data Stream, there is actually a heading called Short Stories, which might fit your requirements.

    Good questions.

    Italics are reserved for OOC chat when it is possible. The \\ is also used as in some places like TeamSpeak chat, it isn’t possible to write in italics. Of course, in an OOC forum, neither is required.

    I think the short stories would be fine in the Character Backstories forum. You could begin a new topic titled “Stories by Blaze” or something and just keep adding the stories so that they are all gathered together. The original short stories posted in the data stream was an old method I tried which didn’t quite work out. Basically, it was using the blog in wordpress to post the stories. I have been thinking about how to change the data stream, and will likely update it with a link to the character back stories.

    I have been thinking about personal logs too. For those posting them regularly, I was considering two options – making a dedicated forum for each person, or suggesting everyone posts in one topic thread (like the character backstories. Neither is perfect though – one topic restricts replies being made to a particular log, a dedicated forum for each person doesn’t seem necessary. I am still trying to think up alternative solutions, which includes looking in to user permissions and pages on the site.

    Deleted as the better-paid heads I just mentioned replied while I was writting.

    Excuse me if I am stepping exactly where Mr. Van Leigh so tactfully avoided.

    Blaze’s short stories set in the present around the creation of his character’s log seem to fit perfectly well in the Personal Log forum. They fulfil a very similar function, the exception being that they are narrated rather than expressed in character, but they do not exactly break the RP since they are narrated from an in-universe viewpoint. There is nothing in the narration from outside the RP.

    It would seem a natural fit to put any backstory or narration from before the character’s first shift into the character backstories location.

    The issue I see is that it would be nice to have a view that showed only the log or the backstory (as proposed). This is less distracting and more immersive to read. On the other hand is it very encouraging and satisfying to get feedback on posted material and it has led to some fun discussions in the threads. The only issue is that the discussion of Personal Logs has to be OOC (because you would not expect someone’s personal log to be open to other characters).

    For this reason, I am compiling my completed logs into a single Google doc, so that it can be reviewed without commentary and with some inserted images.
