The TSN Awards System
Introduction
This document provides guidance for command staff on the Awards System used in the TSN. There are three types of award available; Specialization Pins, awarded for demonstrating expertise; Ribbons, awarded to recognize officers commitment and achievement ; Medals, the most prestigious honors to be awarded to an officer for acts of valor and bravery .
Specialism Pins
Specialism pins give officers the opportunity to test there theoretical knowledge on each of the ship station specializations,
Specialism pin can count towards promotions were expertise on multiple stations is required,
You may want to do a specialism test if you were not happy with your ensign exam score and wish to improve your standing.
Specialism test are now also mandatory when requesting a change in primary expertise, This is to prove just like in an ensign exam you have the required knowledge to operate the systems.
On successful completion of a theoretical examination, officers are awarded a specialism pin. There are three “levels” of pin available; Bronze, Silver or Gold. A particular level is awarded, dependent upon the result of an examination.
Ensigns Exam Pin Requirements
Bronze Pass Ensign Exam (Grade >60%)
Silver Pass Ensign Exam on first attempt (Grade >75%)
Gold Pass Ensign Exam on first attempt (Grade >95%))
Operations Exam Pins Requirements
Bronze Pass Ops Exam (Grade >60%)
Silver Pass Ops Exam on first attempt (Grade >75%)
Gold Pass Ops Exam on first attempt (Grade >95%)
Advanced Operations Exam Requirements
Bronze Pass Advanced Ops Exam (Grade >60%)
Silver Pass Advanced Ops Exam on first attempt (Grade >75%)
Gold Pass Advanced Ops Exam on first attempt (Grade >95%))
Ribbons
Ribbons have been introduced as a way to recognize the commitment of officers on a day to day basis.
Ribbons are awarded when officers meet certain criteria. They can be awarded to an officer of any rank once the requirements are met. They are awarded on a regular basis to all eligible officers
Medals
There are two types of medals:
Campaign Medals
During a particular campaign, TSN Command may award a Campaign Medal to those officers that took part in recognition of their participation. These are awarded to multiple officers at the same time, a short time after a particular campaign. Any officer who participated in a mission linked with the campaign, in whatever capacity, will be awarded the same campaign medal.
Personal Medals
Personal medals are honors bestowed upon particular officers. They are a symbol of the officers honor and commitment to the TSN. Officers receiving these awards demonstrate great bravery and upholding to the highest principles of a TSN Officer.
Nominations
Any officer can nominate a fellow officer for an award by using the nomination form ,
You will need to give detailed information about why the recipient is deserving of such an award,
where and when the events happened, on what vessel and who was the commanding officer was at the time.
This information will be presented to the senior staff for review and awards (if granted) will be handed out
