/I just noticed that nobody has stared a ‘The Bar’ recently. So, here we are./
Rodger Wilcon is lightly sleeping on the bar, snoring slightly. There is a partially drank cup of ginger-ale next to him, along with a data pad and pen, open to an especially long excerpt from the advanced helm guidebook, a diagram of a basic group maneuver showing near the bottom of the screen.
His hair and undress uniform are disheveled, with a slight electrical burn smell coming of of both.
24/04/2026 at 20:10 #22988Matsiyan is slumped bonelessly in an armchair in a far corner of the bar usually out of “officer’s territory” with a few DamCon crew. A large quantity of amber fluid rests in a wide tumbler in front of him, next to an empty.
24/04/2026 at 20:22 #22993Wilcon whips up unexpectedly and clumsily luges out of the bar stool, yelling illegibly at something. This yelling continues for about a minute, until he realizes where he is and quickly stops, standing up quickly.
Somewhat slurred. Hey Mat! How’re ya doin’? Who’re yer friends?
24/04/2026 at 20:22 #22995Matthew walks in, orders a drink, and sits down next to Rodger. Realizing he is sleeping, Matthew pokes Rodger briefly.
Studying the new battle formations?

Oh, hi Vaj. Ya, the new formations are interesting, but are definitely sleep inducing.

25/04/2026 at 03:53 #23007“They look pretty around the docks though and make for at least middling recruiting material,” Nhaima answered, crossing the threshold into the bar. She nodded to each in turn before moving towards more typical officer country so she didn’t crash someone else’s party.
“Whiskey and ginger ale,” she asked lightly. She ran a tentative hand through her hair before straightening the jacket of her uniform and standing awkwardly.
25/04/2026 at 14:43 #23026Slowly blinking the sleep out of his eyes.
Hey Nhaima, what’s up?
Rodger looks tentatively at the glass in Nhaimas hand. Hows the combination working for you, is it good?
Noticing the almost empty glass in front of him. To the room Are there any good desert wines?
25/04/2026 at 15:35 #23028Nhaima laughed softly, “Not a lot right now, thankfully. Just a challenging day.”
Her eyes followed his gaze downward. She tilted the glass slightly and looked at him for confirmation before explaining.
“Oh, this? Works pretty well and I’ve been on a ginger ale kick recently. Irish whiskey is best if you can get it. Bourbon changes the flavor slightly and can overpower the ginger if it isn’t strong enough to stand up to it…. scotch works just as well though some might call you a heretic. Really cheap scotches though, not worth fiddling over.”

No, Wilcon, I’ve never found a good desert wine, too dry for my taste. Mind you I have had some pretty potent fermented date beverages.
26/04/2026 at 15:10 #23046Nhaima laughed and shook her head.
“I don’t know if it’s a ‘desert wine’ but I ran into a trader a few years ago who had something claiming to be an ‘ice cider’… allegedly the same sort of idea as ice wine just not with grapes. Was pretty good, kind of like a mead, and very sweet. Expensive though. Lucky for me the guy was a nut for Kralien trinkets and I had just come into a decent assortment of legitimate salvage.”
26/04/2026 at 21:00 #23062Will you drink to the memory of Hunter with us? I’m buying.
27/04/2026 at 06:15 #23065“It’s ‘memory’? I thought the Fleet Captain said that salvage operations were underway and so I assumed she’d be repaired in due time yes? Though I’d certainly join for those lost aboard or that Search & Rescue couldn’t recover in time.”

He he drinks and blinks thoughtfully
FC also said the ball is gone. If that’s true, then it won’t be the same ship. That’s why the interceptor was the same ship as the scout. But salvage hasn’t been attempted yet so who knows. The unit known as Hunter may be reformed and live on, but the ship may be gone forever. They all do in the end, except the one that outlives you.
27/04/2026 at 17:42 #23073Nhaima lifted her glass in suit respectfully, sipped, then couched it in her hand as she drew into the conversation.
“If you don’t mind Conrad, I don’t really see it that way. Ship of Theseus and all that,” she said with a shrug, “The ball can be refabricated, the bulkheads welded anew. Empty billets filled with new family members. Even if only the registry nameplate can be recovered and the rest has to be constructed from a fresh hull, it’ll still be Hunter if you make it that way.”
