Wilcon enters the bar and slowly meanders over to the bar, seeming very pleased with himself. He is currently in his undress uniform, apparently coming from a on-board class.
Hey Nhaima, how’re you doing? To the bar, Ginger-beer please.
Donovan walks in, still carrying his VR gear used to project the HUD for the remotely piloted fighters. “Now I know why they told us to report with this stuff today.”
To Nhaima: “Well, it looks like we’ve some promising fighter pilots in the fleet. Nice to see you haven’t lost your touch!” Orders a gimlet from the bar.
“It’s interesting that fleet command would include fighter wing simulations. Do you think there’s a possibility that we’re going to get a carrier in the fleet? Wouldn’t be much of a ‘Light Division,’ then, would it? Perhaps a ‘wing’ of fighters made up of single fighters from each cruiser, with maybe more than one from Raven?”
Takes gimlet, raises it, closes his eyes, and silently mouths the words for a toast to no one there before taking his first sip.
“In any case, I hope they do more training flights with the fighters and allow for more advanced training – it’d be nice to brush up on tactics of getting Tango on a fleet while in a fighter and dragging off some of the threat so our main ships have an easier time. That’d work especially well where the ships have immediate threats to stations but need a delaying tactic on the other fleets on approach.”
// I think in situations like that, it might be helpful to have either the CAG or a designated Air Command person in the fleet with a Science screen giving vectors to intercept target fleets and then exit/escape vectors to the individual fighters.
Glancing at the gear in Donovan’s arms, I would be all for a carrier, make things interesting. I actually wouldn’t be to bummed to be temporarily drafted into a fighter group.
Oh, and Donovan, thank you for getting the professor to do that ‘surprise’ obstacle navigation exam, it was so much fun. Was absolutely amazing, mines galore, I was actually a bit disappointed that it wasn’t an actively moving asteroid field navigation exam.
“…while in a minefield. Better than moving asteroids!”
“And, for the record, I didn’t arrange for any exams. I have nowhere near the influence in the academy that that would take.”
Donovan’s voice gets hushed…
“I… ummmm… discovered the simulation schedule by chance while I was doing some work on the mainframe. Well, not so much the exam schedule, as it was the additional coding and resources recently added to the system. When I dug a bit deeper, I saw what was being modified, and just put two and two together. It was also why I knew to have the fighter VR gear updated and tested for the fighters in the Combat Wing A Simulator ahead of time. And watch who you bring this up around. Not everyone in the academy and fleet would appreciate how I came across that information. Present company, excepted. So, let’s just keep that on the need-to-know, ok?”
Got it, I’ll attempt not to talk about the incident.
