Remmick asked me today if I made my character icon by using the City of Heroes character creator. The answer is yes. For anyone else who used to play CoH/CoV, and who might not know, the Icon character creator program is still available, with an infinite number of character creation tokens. And there’s a fb group called CoH Survivors, where, apart from reminiscing and posting screenshots from the game and generally wallowing in nostalgia, people post updates about the progress of CoH’s spiritual successors, City of Titans and Valiance. That’s also where you find the details for downloading Icon.
Not only that but it is still possible to visit Paragon City and meet up with your Super friends because Paragon Chat converted the game client into a chat client that lets you use the game locations as chat rooms and see the presence of other people’s avatars. Emotes and travel powers work, even the subway and the ferries work.
There are regular costume contests on Tuesday evenings. I believe people play hide and seek.
@Mundy, I was there from Beta. I didn’t play continuously, but it is still the game I went back to the most.
For the things you’re able to do (make characters, hide & see, costume contests), do you have to have the original game files? I’m at least a couple computers past that.
You do but there is an installer to put them all in place. It is called “tequila” and is available from the Titan City forums. Google for Paragon Chat and maybe “Icon” installer. People were running the client just to create costumes and walk the maps alone.
